#BEDM – Passion Project – My Dream Job

By Rachel Birchley • 6 May 2014 • Life, Lifestyle
What makes your heart soar - passion projects

Today’s prompt for Blog Every Day in May is ‘passion projects’. What do I love and would like to many money from?

For me this is a no-brainer. I would love to earn a living doing something travel related.

Travel is just in my blood. If someone took away my passport, took away any means of transport and told me I couldn’t ever go anywhere every again I would be devastated. I was going to write, that life wouldn’t be worth living, but that’s not true. I have a husband who loves me, family who care about me and hopefully the possibility of kids in the future. I would carry on living and I would be as happy as possible but I just think I would feel constrained.

Not all those who wander are lost
I have to go places, sleep in different beds, see new faces, etc, etc. I always have to have a trip planned. At the moment we’ve got a week in the Lake District followed by a week in the Cairngorms booked for this September, I’m planning two weeks in France for next summer (a week camping followed by a week with my parents) and we’re hoping to go to Orlando in December 2016. Can you tell I like to plan ahead?

My dream way to earn money would be to become a travel writer.

This would combine two of my passions: travel and writing. The problem with this is having to fund the travel yourself.

I can talk people’s ears off about travel, places to go, things to see, and so on. I used to be a travel agent and thought it was brilliant but I wasn’t too hot on the sales front. The problem with being a travel agent is that it doesn’t pay well at all. Maybe I could be a tour guide!

The people I envy are those who are location independent. They earn money while living somewhere amazing. Being able to set my own hours would be fantastic. As you’ll know from my morning routine post, I’m not a morning person. I hate getting up in the morning but can happily stay up until the early hours of the morning. I think I work better when I’m tired.

Perhaps I don’t need to work in travel but have the freedom to be able to travel when and where I want.

Passion Number 2 = Houses!

My favourite programmes on telly are housey programmes. Location, Location, Location, A Place in the Sun, Grand Designs, Escape to the Country, Homes Under the Hammer, anything involving buying, selling, building and refurbishing property just fascinates me. I also have to have my laptop on while watching so I can look at property websites or plan kitchens for a house I don’t own. I can lose hours on Pinterest.

Maybe one day I can buy a project house and do it up. When I was little I used to want to be an architect but I’m let down by the fact that I can’t draw for toffee! Part of me would like to run my own hotel or B&B. I enjoy watching Three in a Bed and Hotel Inspector and I’m sure I could do a better job than loads of those people!

Stop waffling Rachel!

All I know is that I’d love to work for myself one day. I have a good job at the moment and I work with a great bunch of people but I crave freedom and independence. I don’t really know what I want to do but what I do know is that to succeed working for myself I would need to have a huge amount of passion for whatever I’d be doing.

What do you love that you’d like to earn money from? Tell me in the comments below 🙂
