Ever since I’ve started this blog, my posts have been a bit haphazard. It would be nice to think I could keep to a schedule but I’m not sure that’ll ever happen! To try and help me along the way and to give myself a kick up the bum, I’ve signed up for Elizabeth of Rosalilium‘s ‘Blog Every Day in May’ challenge. She’s given us a topic for each day to give all the bloggers taking part something to work with.
I’m hoping that as well as giving my blog a bit of a boost, this challenge will encourage me to write about topics that I wouldn’t normally and to explore different options for posts.
Today’s topic is an easy one, ‘what is your blog all about?‘
So without further ado, I’m going to tell you a little bit about me and what makes my blog tick.
As the name of my blog suggests, I am Rachel Birchley. This could suggest a complete lack of imagination but actually I want this blog to represent me and perhaps become a platform for other activities further down the line. At the moment this is a lifestyle blog, which I love. It’s great not to have any constraints about what I can write about. Whether I’m blogging about what I ate at the weekend, my clothing wish lists or trying new beauty products, it’s all covered by the ‘lifestyle’ tag.
I used to write a travel blog but because I wasn’t travelling any more it became too difficult to find new content. That blog was called The Humble Tourist. I chose that name because so many so-called ‘travellers’ seem to dislike the term ‘tourist’ and don’t want to be associated with them. Many of them think that tourists are people who never stray from the beaten track, order from English menus abroad and don’t make an effort to take in the local culture. I think there’s a happy medium. I don’t see why it’s bad to want to visit tourist attractions and do touristy things. I also want to explore the local culture but I also enjoy creature comforts. Who doesn’t? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being a humble tourist.
If you fancy reading any of my old travel posts, they’re now all on RachelBirchley.com under Travel. Transferring the posts from Blogger over to WordPress meant losing some of the formatting so please don’t hate me if you open a post that looks pretty horrific! I’m gradually going through editing the formatting but it’s a bit of a slog!
I love writing and I enjoy having my little corner of the internet. I like to think that people enjoy reading what I have to say, but I don’t even mind if nobody reads my blog. I write for myself above anyone else.
There’s not much else to say really! This is me. If you have any questions fire away! I’m looking forward to reading the other bloggers posts. To follow along, search for #BEDM on Twitter.
